FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

WHERE IS THE SCHOOL LOCATED?

Crooked Creek School is located on the northwest corner of Kessler Blvd. and Michigan Road, on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

WHO MAY ATTEND CROOKED CREEK?

Families who rent or own a home in our attendance district are eligible to attend. Kindergarten and first grade students must be 5 or 6 years old by September 1st respectively to enroll for that school year. Potential students outside our attendance district may apply for Limited Choice at any MSD Washington Township school.

WHAT DO I NEED TO ENROLL MY CHILD AT CROOKED CREEK?

We need an immunization record, birth certificate, and mortgage or lease document in the parents’ name. If you reside with another person who holds the lease or mortgage, you must first contact our student programs advisor, Migdelia Bolin, at 845-9400, ext. 241, to fill out shared residence papers and schedule a home visit. Please call the CC office with any questions.

WHERE MAY I ACCESS COMPARATIVE TEST SCORES?

All Indiana public schools have this information on the Indiana Department of Education website at www.doe.in.gov.

DO YOU HAVE KINDERGARTEN AT CROOKED CREEK?

Yes, Crooked Creek offers a full day program.

HOW LARGE ARE CLASSES AT CROOKED CREEK?

Each year is slightly different, due to our status as a public school. Our classes average 25 students. Kindergarten classes also have instructional assistants.

DO STUDENTS AT CROOKED CREEK WEAR UNIFORMS?

Students at Crooked Creek are not required to wear uniforms. We do, however, have a dress code which is available in the student handbook.

WHAT ARE SCHOOL HOURS?

The Crooked Creek School day runs from 8:25 AM to 3:25 PM.

IS AFTER SCHOOL CARE AVAILABLE?

AYS (At Your School) provides after-school care at Crooked Creek before and after the regular school day, for an additional fee. For more information, please contact them directly at 283-3817.

DO YOU OFFER A FOREIGN LANGUAGE?

All students at Crooked Creek participate in Chinese language and culture instruction once per week, which is a portion of our partnership with two school districts in China.

HOW OFTEN DO STUDENTS ATTEND SPECIALS CLASSES?

Crooked Creek students all participate in physical education, music, library, Chinese, and art one time each week on a rotating basis.

WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED DURING LUNCH PERIODS?

Students are encouraged to have a nutritious lunch which is provided daily at school. Four choices are always offered, including hot choices, a salad or fruit lunch, and a sandwich option with side items and milk. Free or reduced lunch is offered to qualifying families. Students are allowed to carry lunch to school and may purchase milk separately. Students are served lunch in half-hour periods between 10:30 AM and 12:50 PM starting with the youngest students. Breakfast is also offered daily.

HOW LONG IS RECESS?

Recess is held in each grade level for a twenty-minute period either before or after lunch. All students go outside every day unless the windchill is below zero or if a doctor’s note is provided. All students are expected to have hats, gloves, and boots as appropriate for the weather.

IS THERE A HOME READING PROGRAM?

All Crooked Creek students are asked to read each evening for at least twenty minutes. Reading may be done with or to an adult, or independently. Each child must turn in a “LINK LOG” each week which documents this reading and which must be signed by a parent.

DO YOU HAVE A GIFTED EDUCATION PROGRAM?

The gifted education program in MSDWT is called “Compass.” All second grade students in the township are tested for the program in the spring. Students who qualify are invited to participate in the program beginning in the third grade. Crooked Creek is one of three sites in the district where the Compass program is offered. Each grade is self-contained with multi-age level experiences during the year.

HOW DO I GET  TRANSPORTATION ISSUES RESOLVED?

All buses are dispatched from our transportation center, so many questions are often best answered by their staff. You may reach the transportation center at 254-5510. The Assistant Principal at Crooked Creek handles bus concerns.
